Is Functional Medicine Right for You?
- “I’ve tried everything”
- “All my labs are normal"
- “My doctor told me to just take this pill and check back in six weeks”
- “I’ve seen a ton of doctors and gotten no relief”
- “My doctor said it’s all in my head.”
Sound familiar?
This is the type of medical care that is unfortunately far too common these days.
Every day I work with people who are frustrated or have given up hope at finding relief or a solution to their health problem.
They’ve gotten nowhere with the current medical system other than a pill, surgery or simply a deadend.
I Can Help!
Functional medicine allows us to get many answers that your Primary Care Physician or specialist generally can’t or won’t find and allows us to identify imbalances in your health to help prevent or reverse illness.
Functional Medicine practitioners are like detectives, examining all the areas that contribute or degrade your health, using specialized tests to give us clues as to how we can get you back to vibrant, exuberant health.
If you’re looking for a deep dive into your health, Functional Medicine is for you.

What Makes Functional Medicine Different?
When your doctor tells you your labs are normal or within range it means that you’re not dying from what they can tell.
But who wants to live like that?
In Functional Medicine, we run blood, stool, urine or saliva tests to see what is going on in your body. Our tests differ than your regular doc because we are testing for more markers and with more specificity.
This means we aren’t running a bare bones food sensitivity test that’s only testing for 14 common allergens that test only raw eggs (how often do you actually eat raw eggs? — other than maybe in cookie dough). We test for 180 different markers, including a separate test for egg whites vs yolks, both cooked and raw foods, as well as meat glues and other additives found in processed foods.
The goal with Functional Medicine is to identify the root cause of your discomfort. The tests your regular physician runs is like taking your car to the body shop and only checking the dashboard lights, telling you it’s tests are normal (because none of the alarm lights are on) even though your car is veering to the right and making a weird “badunk-a-dunk-a-dunk” every time you go over 20mph.
Tests only confirm or rule out what you are looking for and if your not testing for the right things, you won’t find it. Functional Medicine leaves no stone unturned in it’s mission to get you in the best health of your life.

How Functional Medicine Works

Step 1: Book Your Initial Consult
We offer both in-person or virtual appointments so even if you’re not in Orange County, we can still work together. It’s easiest to book online but if you don’t see something that works with your schedule, you can always call us for more availability.

Step 2: Fill Out the Paperwork
Because we assess all of the different lifestyle aspects that contribute to your health, our paperwork is pretty extensive. We want to know ALL the dirty deets so we can come up with a solid plan that is tailored to you to get you better. Our daily habits and environment contribute to our health and we need to examine it all to see what areas need a bit more support. Be prepared to spend 20-60minutes filling this out providing as much detail as possible.

Step 3: The Initial Consult
During this 30 minute visit we will go over your chief concerns and goals in working together. From here, Kacie will decide what lab tests will be beneficial for you as well as any initial recommendations she may have to help get you relief while we’re waiting for the lab results.

Step 4: Do Your Labs
Read the instructions and complete them as soon as possible. Each individual receives different labs depending on what their concerns and condition entails. Most of the labs and requisitions (the paper with your info to give to the labs) will be sent to your home for you to do. It’s VERY important to read all of the instructions for each lab test ASAP as they have specific preparation instructions for each one. Some require a specific diet, fasting, or a urine test to be performed within 24 hours of your blood draw. If you’re doing multiple tests this can get confusing if you’re not prepared so be sure to read and review the instructions as soon as you receive them.
If it’s a blood test you can follow the instructions sent to you to bring in to a LabCorp or Quest OR you can request an in-home phlebotomist to draw your blood in the convenience of your own home. Try to get these labs done as soon as possible as it can take 1-4 weeks for processing once you’ve sent it in.

Step 5: The Case Review
Once we’ve received your lab results (it can take 1-4 weeks to process once you’ve sent it in so it’s important to get it done ASAP once you receive it so we can get the healing party started), Kacie will meet with you (in-person or virtual) to go over your test results and present your treatment plan. The treatment plan may consist of a supplement protocol, diet, lifestyle modifications or other modalities to help achieve our goals.

Step 6: The Follow Up
After you’ve received your treatment plan, we will generally set you up with a 30 or 60 day follow up appointment. This allows us to check in and see how you’re doing, what you may be struggling with, ways that we can help or adjust the treatment plan. We know change can be hard and we want to help facilitate and provide you with the tools and knowledge you need to succeed.

Optional: Weekly Check-Ins
If you feel you require more assistance, motivation or guidance, we offer the option of a weekly check-in. These are priced at $30 for every 15 minutes. This can be done via email or on the phone to go over anything you’ve been struggling with as well as to help motivate and keep you on target to achieving your health goals. This can be done weekly, bi-weekly or at any point you need a little extra support.
