When people think of parasites, they picture tropical jungles, contaminated water, or that one time they ate sushi in a sketchy strip mall.

But here’s the thing, parasites don’t need a passport. They’re way more common than most people realize, and they don’t care if you live in California, eat organic, or have never left the country.

In my clinic, I see it all the time: people with “mystery symptoms” that no diet, supplement, or doctor visit has been able to fix… until we address what’s living inside them.

So, let’s talk about the signs no one connects to parasites and why ignoring them can keep you stuck feeling awful.

Before you read on…

📋 Grab my free Parasite Symptom Checklist to see how many of these signs you have.

It’s quick, eye-opening, and could be the missing piece to your health puzzle.

1. You feel worse around the full moon

That’s not you turning into a werewolf. Parasites are more active during the full moon because your body produces less melatonin, which normally helps keep them in check.

More activity = more symptoms.

And when they’re more active, they’re not just bugging your gut — they can stir up inflammation, mess with your sleep, and even trigger mood changes.

2. Unexplained bloating

You’re eating clean, avoiding gluten, taking a probiotic, maybe even tracking your food… yet you still feel like you swallowed a balloon. Some parasites produce gas as they digest their food (a.k.a. your food).

3. Waking up between 1–3 am

In Chinese medicine, that’s your liver time — a major detox organ. If parasites are releasing toxins at night, your body’s working overtime to filter them out, and your sleep pays the price.

4. Constant cravings (especially sugar)

Parasites love sugar. The more they get, the more they want — and they’re not shy about making you crave it too.

5. Itchy skin or unexplained rashes

When parasites excrete waste, your body tries to get rid of it any way it can. For some, that’s through the skin, causing itching, bumps, or eczema-like patches.

6. Anxiety, irritability, or mood swings

Parasites don’t just mess with your gut — they mess with your brain. They create inflammation and disrupt your gut-brain connection, which can trigger mood issues.

7. Low iron or anemia that doesn’t budge

Some parasites literally feed on your blood, leaving you depleted no matter how many iron-rich foods or supplements you take.

8. Digestive issues that come and go

One week you’re fine, the next you’re glued to the bathroom. Or it’s constipation, then diarrhea, then back again. You can’t pin it on stress or anything you ate — parasites can cause unpredictable gut chaos.

9. Teeth grinding at night

Not always caused by parasites, but in some cases, their nighttime activity triggers your nervous system and can make your jaw clench while you sleep.

10. Symptoms that started after travel or food poisoning

This one’s big. If you can trace your health issues back to “ever since that trip” or “ever since that bad meal,” parasites could be part of the picture.
